Porcelain Veneers
Issaquah, WA

Your teeth serve a variety of purposes. Along with the functional purposes of biting, chewing, and controlling the flow of air when you speak, your teeth also play an integral role in the appearance of your smile. Any flaws in your teeth, no matter how small they are, can have a significant effect on your smile, and your confidence. Lake Sammamish Family Dentistry can help with porcelain veneers.

Minor Flaws That Affect Your Smile

There are some different minor issues that can impact the appearance of your teeth and therefore the quality of your smile.
•  Small chips or cracks in the enamel of your teeth.
•  Minor alignment issues, such as small gaps between the teeth or slight overlapping, that do not affect your oral health.
•  You have teeth that are smaller than the rest.
•  You have teeth that are oddly shaped.
•  Your teeth are discolored and have not responded to whitening.

What Are Veneers?

Most minor flaws do not affect the health of your mouth, but they can have a significant impact on your smile as well as your confidence. Veneers are a restoration designed to correct the appearance of your teeth, restoring the beauty of your smile. This treatment uses small shell-like structures to cover over the front portions of your damaged teeth, effectively covering up the flaws.

Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

Typically, veneers are made from composite resin or porcelain. Composite resin is the more affordable of the two options, but it also not nearly as strong and only has a lifespan of 7 to 10 years. Composite resin is also porous, meaning that it can pick up stains. Any stains in composite resin cannot be whitened away. All of our veneers are made from porcelain. Porcelain offers numerous benefits. Not only does the material match the color of your natural teeth, but it also reflects light just natural enamel. The material so closely resembles your natural teeth that it is impossible to tell the difference between the restorations and your real tooth surfaces. Porcelain is stronger than composite resin and can last 15 years or more with proper care. The material is biocompatible, meaning that it will not irritate your sensitive gum tissue. It is also stain resistant. In fact, porcelain is even more stain resistant than your natural teeth.

What to Expect During Veneer Placement

It usually takes two appointments to get your porcelain veneers. Your first visit is reserved for preparing the teeth and taking impressions of them. Preparing the teeth is a necessary process done under a local anesthetic. It involves the removal of a small amount of enamel from each affected tooth. While veneers are thin, placing them directly on the surfaces of your teeth could result in unnatural bulk. By removing just, a small layer of enamel, we are able to ensure that your veneers sit perfectly in line with the rest of your other teeth. Next, impressions of your mouth are taken. These impressions are then sent to our dental lab. There, they are used to custom create your porcelain veneers and bring them to life. Once they are ready and have been sent back, we check them for appearance, comfort, and bite, and then bond them into place. If your smile has been affected by minor imperfections, porcelain veneers can help. Call Lake Sammamish Family Dentistry at (425) 270-1075 to schedule your consultation today.
